Leslie Science and Nature Center Web Site

The Leslie Science and Nature Center is a well-loved gem of the Ann Arbor area, providing the community chances to connect with and learn about our natural environment. We helped the organization convey the sense of joyfulness that they bring to educating adults and kids. Behind the scenes, the site is flexible and easy to work with, allowing the center to update information on the fly.

SOS Community Services Web site

SOS Community Services
soscs.org

SOS Community Services provides vital programs that help homeless families in Washtenaw County. The existing SOS web site was outdated, hard to manage, and had grown unorganized over time. Even worse, it didn't reflect the heart and professionalism that had helped the non-profit organization to grow and endure. We delivered this site just in time for their 40th birthday. Happy birthday SOS—we hope that the new site will inspire people to learn more, donate and volunteer!

FLY children's art center kits packaging

Packaging for Art Kits
FLY Children’s Art Center

Roll, sway, growl! We’re proud to support FLY Children's Art Center's mission of helping grow creativity and community in Ypsilanti and beyond. Like FLY, we believe that creativity and problem-solving are essential skills for our next generation of awesome, engaged citizens. These kits are full of fun (and recycled/repurposed) supplies to make marble chutes, invented animals and mobiles. They were developed as a fundraiser, and as part of an innovative program that provides children in need with the tools to create, explore, and develop their vision. We're pleased to see the kits in the hands of kids across Washtenaw county. And it delights us to see them sold in several museum gift shops too! Silkscreened on recycled cardboard by VG Kids.

foo bar coffee shop signage

Foo Bar Coffee Shop Signage
University of Michigan Computer Science Engineering Building, North Campus.

"Foo Bar" was the winning entry in a student competition to name the coffee shop in the new Computer Science Engineering Building. (The words "Foo" and "Bar" are used as placeholder names in computer programming or documentation. There's another play on words happening here, the slang acronym "FUBAR"—we'll let you look that up.) The sign evokes the old days of computer punch cards, and uses the computer's default font Courier. We designed it; the amazing Grafaktri built it.

Their annual report theme of tapestry relates to the idea of community, diversity, and working together to create rich lives full of potential. We designed this report to have the high impact and tactile appeal of a felted woven paper cover— but the 2-color inside pages fit nicely into their budget.

VIP Reception Invitation

VIP Reception Invitation
Southwest Solutions, Southwest Detroit

The reception celebrated the renovation of three historic properties in Southwest Detroit. The Arts and Crafts era apartment buildings had been restored to their former glory— bringing affordable, energy-efficient, beautiful residential space, and transforming the neighborhood in the process. Because the client was very proud of the history and craftsmanship of the building, we continued this in the invitation: using hand-screenprinted wrapping paper as a cover, and organizing a small group of volunteers to do a simple thread book-binding technique instead of a staple.
